NAMI CONNECTION SUPPORT GROUPS (FREE) NAMI Connection (Consumers/Clients Advocating Recovery through Empowerment) is a self-help client support group led by Clients for Clients with any mental health diagnosis. A NAMI Connection is a ppeer-based, mutual support group model that focuses on allowing all participants to share their experiences and learn from each other in a safe and confidential enviroment. It is an alliance of individuals' common experience of living with mental illness. In NAMI Connection we use our personal experiences as learning opportunities for ourselves and others. The purpose is to support the process of personal recovery among people who have been diagnosed with a serious mental illness. Support groups are important because feelings of isolation can be immobilizing. Support can give relief from isolation while giving the opportunity to not only associate within a group, but possibly form meaningful, lastion, individual friendships. Sharing our own experiences can lead to increased silf-esteem, self-awareness, and self-confidence. Support groups provide great opportunities for learning new strategies and options for dealing with the day to day rigors of living with any mental illness. Support can keep us focused on the here and now, while moving us forward with our recovery process. We are currently offering two NAMI Connection Connection Support Groups in the north coastal region. They are offered FREE to clients struggling to cope with the realities of their mental illness.
